An Patriotic Colour Scheme and Historic Logo

The fresh livery features a Union Flag-inspired design to mirror the national flag and will be applied on locomotives, at terminals, and across its website and app.

Interestingly, the logo is the well-known double-arrow logo presently used by National Rail and first created in the 1960s for British Rail.

A Rollout Strategy

The implementation of the design, which was created internally, is set to occur over time.

Passengers are set to begin noticing the freshly-liveried trains across the national network from spring next year.

Throughout the month of December, the design will be showcased at major stations, like Birmingham New Street.

A Path to Public Ownership

The Railways Bill, which will allow the creation of GBR, is presently moving through the House of Commons.

The government has stated it is renationalising the railways so the network is "run by the people, operating for the people, not for profit."

The new body will consolidate the operation of train services and tracks and signals under a single organisation.

The government has said it will merge 17 different organisations and "eliminate the notorious bureaucracy and lack of accountability that has long affected the railways."

Digital Services and Existing Ownership

The rollout of Great British Railways will also feature a new app, which will let passengers to see train times and reserve tickets free from additional fees.

Passengers with disabilities travellers will also be have the option to use the app to request support.

A number of operators had earlier been taken into public control under the previous government, such as LNER.

There are now 7 train operators already in public control, covering about a one-third of journeys.

In the past year, South Western Railway have been brought into public ownership, with additional operators anticipated to be added in 2026.

Ministerial and Sector Comments

"The new design isn't just a cosmetic change," stated the relevant minister. It symbolises "a transformed service, shedding the issues of the past and concentrated completely on delivering a proper passenger-focused service."

Rail representatives have responded positively to the government's commitment to improving the passenger experience.

"The industry will carry on to collaborate with industry partners to facilitate a successful transition to GBR," one executive said.
