The Actress Expresses Speaking About Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Tearing the Nation Apart

Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she believes it's no longer fitting to speak out against the Trump presidency, fearing it could worsen divisive discussions and increase separation within the United States.

‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Explains Lawrence

During a discussion, Lawrence shared, “During the first Trump administration, I felt like I was moving hastily without clear direction. But experience has shown, over multiple voting cycles, celebrities do not make a difference in any way on who people vote for.”

Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just voicing my thoughts on an issue that’s going to worsen tensions tearing the country apart.”

Shifting Views

The actress has spoken candidly about supporting right and leftwing candidates throughout her life. Raised by Republican parents in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in 2008 before joining the left-leaning politics and explaining she understood during President Obama’s term that backing conservatives was undermining her own rights as a woman.

Past Statements

Several years ago, she remarked that Donald Trump’s election could represent “a catastrophic event” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. More recently, she voiced her backing to Kamala Harris, “since I think she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will make every effort to defend women’s health rights.”

Celebrity Views

Jennifer Lawrence was aligned with most of Hollywood in her rejection of the former president as a presidential contender, but the limited influence celebrities have over the voting intentions was highlighted by Trump’s victory.

“This upcoming term feels different,” commented Lawrence about his leadership. “Because he made his plans clear. We understood his record for four years. He was very clear. And voters made that decision.”

New Release

Jennifer Lawrence is currently promoting her new film, Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she portrays a new mother who deals with her psychological well-being in the countryside. Speaking at a interview session for the movie in Venice, she commented on the conflict in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s mortifying. What’s happening is equivalent to a genocide and it’s terrible.”

Broader Concerns

She continued by stating that she was saddened by “the hostility in the conversations of U.S. political debates right now and how that is going to be normalised to the kids right now. It’s going to be standard to them that elected officials deceive.”

She attempted to refocus frustration about the situation to leaders rather than actors and artists. “Stay focused on those accountable,” she said, which was interpreted as a reference to the then-recent pledge endorsed by more than 4,000 entertainment industry figures to refuse engagement with certain cultural organizations.

Personal Connections

Lawrence, who received an Academy Award at a young age for her role in her breakout movie, is generating Oscar buzz for her work in her latest project. Even though Lynne Ramsay has disputed the narrative being seen as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, Lawrence revealed that she did relate to aspects of her film narrative after the birth of her new baby, soon after filming concluded.

“It was fear about my child,” she commented, “envisioning every worst-case scenario, and then questioning everything that I was attempting. I was seeing a therapist, but I started taking a medication called that medicine and I used it for two weeks and it made a difference.”

Career Moments

The actor also discussed about the liberating necessity of completing nude scenes in the movie while she was expecting and limited physically.

“There’s a freedom,” she said, of being forced to abandon insecurities. “I mean, I sometimes think where I’m like, What technically are the differences between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
