Rob Edwards and Gary O'Neil represent the initial candidates in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.

The previous coach was sacked on the weekend after the squad's ten-game winless start to the top-flight campaign.

And Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have previous links to the club - are part of the names to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible obstacle to his appointment at Molineux.

However the ex- Luton manager - who made over a century of games for the club during his playing career - is considered a strong contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves directors as they begin the process of appointing a fresh head coach.

Gary O'Neil is additionally appearing as a surprise contender, although he would be a shock choice considering he was sacked by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham midfielder is currently unemployed meaning the club would not be required to pay any compensation.
