More than 100 hundred million people, including at minimum 15 million youth, now utilize e-cigarettes, propelling a recent trend of nicotine addiction, according to recent global health reports.

Youth are, on average, nine times more prone than grown-ups to use e-cigarettes, according to available worldwide figures.

E-cigarettes are driving a "recent wave" of nicotine habit, remarked a senior health official. "They are promoted as damage limitation but, truthfully, are hooking youth on nicotine sooner and endanger undermining years of advancement."

Teens Being 'Aimed At'

"Millions of people are quitting, or avoiding tobacco use due to tobacco control measures by countries around the planet," the representative stated.

"As an answer to this strong improvement, the tobacco industry is pushing back with novel nicotine devices, forcefully aiming at adolescents. Authorities must act more rapidly and more vigorously in implementing established tobacco-control policies," the official continued.

The e-cigarette statistics are an approximation since some nations - 109 in total, and many in Africa and South-East Asia - fail to collect data.

According to the report, as of recent February this year, at minimum 86 million e-cigarette users were grown-ups, primarily in high-income countries.

And at minimum 15 million teenagers aged 13 and 15 currently engage in vaping, according to research from 123 nations.

While several countries have made efforts to implement e-cigarette policies to address youth vaping in the past few years, by the end of 2024, 62 countries yet had no policy in effect, and 74 states had no minimum age at which e-cigarettes are allowed to be purchased, says the medical organization.

Meanwhile, tobacco consumption has been declining - from an estimated 1.38 billion consumers in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.

Frequency of tobacco usage among females fell the greatest - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.

For males, the decrease was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.

But 20% of grown-ups worldwide even now consumes tobacco.

Cigarette consumption is connected to numerous illnesses, including cancer.

Experts state vaping is far less damaging than traditional cigarettes, and can help you stop smoking. It is not recommended for non-smokers.

Vaping devices do not burn tobacco and do not produce tar or toxic gas, two of the most harmful components in tobacco smoke. They include nicotine, which may be dependency-creating.
